  16. If the set-up time is that important, look at ISDN╔  Otherwise, you might try
  17. setting modem options that don't negotiate - if you know that each end will
  18. speak v.42 and v.42bis, for example.  And look at the log of the ppp
  19. negotiation.  If you can control who's asking for what features, you might
  20. speed that up.
